This month we highlight one of Midcoast’s strongest and most humble athletes, Gabe Chase. We are very fortunate to have such a skillful athlete in our midst. I always like to stick around when he comes in to chat and to see his next lift.
Here is a little from Gabe:
“Growing up with 2 brothers, I’ve always been active. Much of my childhood was spent playing sports in the yard or chasing my brothers through department stores full of delicate merchandise, to my Mother’s great shame. In High School, I played soccer, and in College, I got into weightlifting. At the time, I was hooked only on “bro-lifts”: bench press, bicep curls, and a chronic neglect of leg day. Feeling bored with my routine after college, I tried a local crossfit box in 2012. Despite my pitiful first attempts at power cleans (more like reverse curls at that point), I knew that I had found something special. Ever since, I have become obsessed with CrossFit, not only for how uniquely difficult the “wods” are, but also because of the community. The community forged in the box reminds me of the Biblical proverb “As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another” (Proverbs 27:17). We all grow stronger here by encouraging one another .
When my wife Heather and I needed to move to a new box, we decided to try MCCF. From day 1, we felt warmly welcomed by both the staff and box members, and we have sincerely enjoyed being a part of this community. No matter what my work day has been like, I love it when I walk into MCCF, because it feels like I am starting with a blank slate, ready to take on new challenges.”
