To be an athlete of any kind takes drive, determination, passion and heart. There are days you feel on top of the world and there are days that you want to quit. Never giving up, always pushing yourself past limits and knowing that the reward is much greater than the pain is what it takes to be an athlete.
We have many amazing athletes among us at MCCF and tonight I would like to share a proud moment and accomplishment of one of our own….
Patrick Colquhoun decided this year that he wanted to do an Olympic Triathlon. He has had many great athletic accomplishments so why not try something new?! Patrick had been training (swimming, biking, running) endlessly and putting in the time to take care of what needed to be done to reach his goal. I am so proud to say that this past Sunday (one day after his birthday), Patrick celebrated the way any determined athlete would. He completed his first Olympic Tri!!!
I spoke today with Patrick and he said the lake was beautiful and the swim was great. He said the course was tough because it was very hilly and there were times on the bike that he was beating cars down hills and times that he was in turtle speed to get back up, which also made for a tough run! But the thing I loved the most that Patrick told me about the day was that he went into this event carefree. He was calm and didn’t have any nervous energy, just excitement to get done what he had trained so hard for. Pretty awesome stuff!
Patrick, we are all so proud of you!
I have to throw one more detail in this story…..
Children mimic what their parents do and if you show a kid great heart, then the kid will be sure to follow.
Patrick’s son Keegan is also training to do a kids triathlon at camp. The kids were taught to cheer for others especially when you finish before them. (Sound familiar Crossfitters?) Well, Keegan finished his run and the other kids did as well. There was one child that was still running and the coach told the kids to cheer him on. Keegan went one step further and ran to his buddy’s side to run him in to the finish!
I am proud to have this dynamic duo (Patrick and Keegan) at MidCoast CrossFit!
Well done dad! Like father like son!
