This month’s Athlete of the Month has been with us for about 9 months now! He came to us eager to learn and excited to be here and in these months has not only learned so much, he now puts up PR’s consistently and has gotten very strong! Andrew always has a smile on his face and we always love to see him coming! I asked Andrew a few questions about his time at MidCoast CrossFit and here is what he had to say….
What brought you to MCCF?
Honestly, the fear of dad-bod. I had not really taken my fitness seriously in a couple of years, and when my wife and I found out we’d be expecting our first child in June, the fear set in. Prior to joining MCCF, I was playing hockey once a week and had gone the Planet Fitness route. But, that routine faded away as they tend to do. I was always curious about CrossFit and saw that it worked, so in December I joined MidCoast.
What is your greatest accomplishment?
Continuing to show up and work. There are always new skills to learn and lifts to improve; but pushing through uncomfortable moments just to come back and do it all over again the next day is the best feeling. It’s fun surprising yourself.
What is your favorite thing about MCCF?
The people, hands-down. Before I joined, I definitely believed some of the bad CrossFit rumors. ‘It’s dangerous, you’ll get hurt, it’s a cult etc.’ I couldn’t have been more wrong after going to my first class (shout out to 5:30am!). Everyone was welcoming and made me feel at home. Plus, you build instant camaraderie when you know that the person next to you is working to achieve the same thing that you are. It’s really obvious when you’re away for a few days. I’ve squeezed in workouts when traveling for my job; and yeah you sweat, you’re out of breath, but it’s not the same. I’m grateful to be a part of the MCCF family, it’s a huge boost of confidence and the best place to lift (heavy) things up and put them down!
